“Screams In a Box”

Annual Youth Horror Film Challenge and Festival.

This Toronto-centric competition will kick off annually in October and run over the 4 weeks, with the screening and awards to be held on Halloween (or the weekend closest to)

The young people (ages 9-16) who enter the competition have just 3 days to make a horror short while following the very specific rules of the challenge.

ALL teams must include ALL of the compulsory components in their finished film. These specific details are only revealed to them when the box shows up at their front door on the Friday evening.

Each team is provided all the equipment and supplies needed to complete the filmmaking process as well as a 3 hour live and interactive tutorial on how to pre-produce, shoot and edit a short film. The Horror component is enhanced by a special effects makeup kit supplied, along with a secret effect to be completed and included in the finished film.

Our prizes are epic, our judges are celebrities in the film industry. We are sponsored and backed by the George A. Romero foundation, Henry’s and The AV Shop. Our aim is to get young people and their families and friends ,out there making films. We are able to run this challenge during pandemic restrictions and we are confident that we will get bigger every year.
